Background

The Naesmyth.com Web-Site (Formerly, Cousins.Nesmith.com Web-Site) was created out of a desire to assist, while being assisted, in the collection and dissemination of accurate information pertaining to the descendants of Sir Michael Naesmyth (1525-1609) of Posso, Scotland.

The site's name was originally, Cousins.Nesmith.com and this name was not chosen to alienate those descendants who have surname spellings other than 'NESMITH'.  But rather, 'NESMITH' was the only appropriate 'Domain Name' that was found to be available for rent.  The Sub-Domain Name of 'COUSINS' was chosen in an effort to convey the mission and target population for this web-site.  Those being targeted are the tens of thousands of Naesmyth Cousins on this planet.

In an effort to better convey our mission, we have purchased the domains of Naesmyth.com and Naesmyth.org, and have moved all files to the servers of Easyspace, Inc.   You can still get to this site via your links to Cousins.Nesmith.com, however that may change in the future so it would be best that you change your link(s) to refer to http://www.Naesmyth.com

The founders and administrators of this site, Lael Nesmith-Snyder and Stephen A. Nesmith, with encouragement from numerous other Cousins, have collaborated in this effort.

Lael and Stephen are both of the 'New Hampshire Line' of Naesmyths but have never met face-to-face.  Lael lives in Illinois, while Stephen lives in California.  By extensive use of the Internet, Lael and Stephen have been able to make contact with numerous cousins, which prior to the age of the World Wide Web, contact would have been near impossible.

With the concerted efforts of all interested Naesmyth Cousins, I'm confident we can make this web-site a truly valuable resource.  -  Thanks for your assistance.

Using this Web-Site

Top Banner
The Top Banner contains a 'News Ticker' which has been provided by www.7am.com.  It has been found that not all 'Internet Service Providers' (i.e., AOL, CompuServe, MSN, Yahoo, etc.) can support this ticker.  If it doesn't work on your computer, we apologize.  If it does work, just click on the 'ticker' when it displays a news story headline that you're interested in.  You must also click on the ticker a second time to make it start again.  When you click on the headline, the story will appear in the 'Main Frame' of the web-page.  Use your 'Back' icon to return to the Web-page you were viewing before, or click on one of the 'Links' in the 'Menu Frame'.

If you don't wish to view the 'Top Banner', you may remove it by clicking on the 'remove' link within the Top Banner.  To restore the Top Banner, click on the 'restore' link at the top of the 'Main Page' (this is the page you viewed when you first entered this web-site).  Clicking on the 'restore' link will restore the Top Banner, take you back to the 'Main Page' and re-start the music you heard when you first entered this site.

Menu Frame
You will find a 'Menu Frame' to the left of your screen.  If the Menu is longer than your screen, you may scroll up and down using it's 'scroll bar' to the right of the menu frame.  Menu Frame content changes depending on which 'Menu' is currently active.

Clicking on the 'Links' within the Menu Frame will have one of two actions.  First, if you click on a 'Menu Link', you will get a new menu within the Menu Frame.  Second, if you click on a non-Menu Link, the content of the 'Main Frame' will change.

Main Frame
The Main Frame is where all information is presented.  Using 'Links', either within the Main Frame or within the Menu Frame, you can navigate through numerous pages within the Naesmyth.com web-site or to web-sites outside Naesmyth.com.  Typically, if you see the sandy background you are now seeing, then you are still within the Naesmyth.com web-site.  If you see any other background, you are probably outside the web-site.   Most links to an outside web-site will cause your browser to open a 'new window'.   To return to Naesmyth.com, just close the 'new window'.  If the outside web-site appears within the Naesmyth.com frames, either click on your 'Back' icon or click on a non-Menu Link within the 'Menu Frame' to return to the Naesmyth.com web-site.

Some links within the Main Frame don't change the content of the Main Frame.  Instead they change the content of the 'Menu Frame'.   You may then navigate further by use of 'Links' within the 'Menu Frame' or within the Main Frame.

Links
Use of this Web-Site has been simplified as much as practical.   Navigation is performed by 'Links' to other web-pages.  Depending on the settings of your particular Web-Browser, links may appear in different ways.   Typically, links will appear with their text in a different color than the rest of the text.  Sometimes links will be underlined or underlined and a different colorOnce you have visited a link, that link will typically change color.  While that link is 'active' (currently in use) it may appear in still another color.  When you 'hover' your cursor over a link, the shape of your cursor should change, say from an arrow to a pointing hand, again depending on your web-browser and settings.
